Rootsrocket artists were awarded in the British Council’s Sofia Soundtrack competition at an award ceremony at Sofia’s Yalta Club on December 23.
The competition, which proved extremely popular, encouraged people to compose a piece of music that paid tribute to Sofia as an open, modern and diverse city and captured the spirit of the Bulgarian capital.
A total of 65 submissions were received in the competition by the closing date of October 17.
The 1st prize was awarded to Root Souljah’s own Zafayah and Sen I who collaborated with Merudia’s Veso and Hristiyan in the song ‘Sofia Sound’.
The jury was composed of Ana-Maria Tonkova – musical director of BG RADIO, Beloslava, Victoria Knysh – the photographer of the Sofia photographic exhibition, Maria Stanisheva – Europe’s regional manager for the British Council’s OPENCities project, and Hristo Angelichin – deputy mayor of Sofia. /from www.sofiaecho.com/
Zafayah: ‘Music is a mission, not a competiton, but this is a good sign for the recognition of reggae music and culture in our country. We give thanks to the British Council and BG Radio for the initiative. Raspect!’
